The first thing you did when you got home was take a shower. Ah, that feels awesome. You sighed happily while you stood in the steaming water. Your mind wandered off as you washed yourself, using your [Favourite Scent] body soap and shampoo. You giggled to yourself as you thought back to what happened in the car as your parents drove you home from the hospital.

You were in the back seat next to Loki. You felt very playful since the morning and wanted to continue that. You glanced over to Loki to see him staring out the window, a blank stare crossing his features. You smirked mischievously and tapped his shoulder. You quickly looked away and feigned ignorance as he turned to look at you. He studied you for a moment before returning back to his original pose. You did this twice more before he snapped. He snatched your hand, anticipating your movements. You gasped as he pulled you closer until your faces were mere inches apart. You grinned goofily at his glowering demeanor.

“Do it once more and you will be sporting four fingers instead of five,” he threatened, but you could tell he wasn’t sincere.

Being the person you are, you held up your other hand and wiggled your fingers. “I already have four fingers. Loki, you silly-billy, a thumb isn’t a finger.” You tried to contain your laughter as you faked stupidity.

“Dumb, mortal,” he insulted, but it sounded more like an affectionate tease rather than a hurtful slur. He released your hand and you fell back into your seat. “Did you need something? Or were you just harassing me for your own enjoyment?”

You grinned innocently at him, “Maybe the latter.” He merely rolled his eyes at you.

The knocking of the bathroom door brought you out of your thoughts and into the present.

“[Name],” it was your mother, “don’t use all the hot water up, sweetie. Did you fall asleep in there?” You’d hate to admit it but that has happened before. Exams are brutal. You thought, thinking back to when you passed out in the shower from sleep deprivation due to your overnight studying. That won’t happen again.

“No, sorry, I’ll be out in a bit,” you called out to her. You quickly finished up your shower and dried yourself off. You headed to your room down the hall and changed into your normal clothing. You smiled and looked over yourself in the mirror. You were happy to be back in something you felt comfortable in. No more Pepper’s clothes, no more hospital gown. You absentmindedly picked at the Band-Aid they put over the cut where the IV was placed. You felt fine, better than fine. You were safe and healthy, Loki and you were getting along well, and you were finally home. The only thing that bothered you was the threat of Remy and his organization. You were worried he would try and enter your dreams again. Maybe I should contact S.H.I.E.L.D. You contemplated the idea as you left your room to talk to your parents in the living room. They were looking through a pile of papers on the coffee table. Loki lounged lazily -and very princely- on the couch that you liked to sit on while you played your games.

“Scooch over,” you motioned him to move with your hand but he raised his chin to meet your gaze. Even laying down he made it look like he was looking down on you.

“There are other seats in this chamber. Sit in one of those,” he replied, head held by his hand.

“But this is my favourite spot,” you countered, pouting slightly.

“As is mine.”

You crossed your arms and cocked your head at him. “Well, why don’t you just sit up so there can be room for both of us?”

He smirked and leaned back, closing his eyes. “I’d rather not.” Your pout turned into a slightly frown. Why does he have to be so stubborn?

“Do I have to drop a load of books on you again?” You warned. You parents were ignoring you and Loki’s exchange while they did their work. They stood up from their spot and gathered their pages and files. They looked at you briefly before heading upstairs to their small office. Probably to get some peace and quiet. You felt a little guilty that your noisiness made them leave.

Loki cracked one eye open at you, his smirk growing wider. “That did not affect me the first time.”

You huffed and threw up your hands in exasperation. “Fine, you won’t move? That’s fine. I’ll just sit down anyway.” Before Loki could respond you proceeded to sit ungracefully on his stomach. He grunted at the sudden weight and sat up a little in surprise. You crossed your arms, adamant about not moving.

“By the stars,” he muttered before propping himself up slightly, the action prevented by you weighing his torso down. “You are not light,” he complained. You stuck your tongue out at him. He’s so full of it. I’m as light as a feather. You heard him make a quiet growl in his throat and you blinked at the noise. You thought you might have been hurting him so you moved down off of his stomach and more towards his legs. You landed on his lap as he sat fully upright now and narrowed his eyes at you. You heard him growl even louder and quirked your mouth in amusement. Does he even realize he’s doing that? It’s kind of hot.

“Hey, you wouldn’t move,” you defended yourself with a small shrug. You saw him open his mouth to complain but he stopped himself. You noticed his eyes become less harsh as he took in a breath through his nose. You gave him a confused smile. He should have been chewing you out but now he looked almost calm and the growling stopped. “Hey, you okay buddy?”

He nodded and reached forward. You braced yourself, thinking he was going to physically push you off of him. You were surprised when he took a strand of your hair and twiddled it between his fingers. He’s done that before. You watched him curiously. You thought the action was nothing special; Josie and Stan always played with your hair. He dropped it and gave you a gentle smile, no longer upset that you were sitting in his lap.

“I am quite alright, [Name]. Do tell me, what is that scent you wear?”

That question took you back and you had to stop yourself from gawking at him in confusion. “It’s [Favourite Scent]. It’s in my shampoo,” you explained, feeling a little awkward. What is going on in that Godly head of his

“It suits you,” he complimented you sincerely. You blinked at his words. Did I hear that right? No malice? No sarcasm? No hidden taunt?

“Uh, thanks!” You grinned at him, happy that he actually didn’t insult you for once. After hearing that you felt bad about sitting on him. You started to move to get up. “Sorry, I’ll let you have the couch.” You tried to stand but were stopped by an arm capturing your waist. You turned to give Loki a questioning look. “What are you doing?”

He seemed a little astonished by his own actions. He quickly composed himself and released your waist. “I thought you were going to fall over,” he lied. Your lip twitched in a smile. That was the worst lie you have ever heard from the God.

“Sure,” you agreed sarcastically while standing up.

“You question me?” He snapped, moving his legs to hang over the couch rather than across. Ah, there’s the Loki I know.

“No, no, of course not,” you said with a wave of your hand. He frowned and looked to the side. You couldn’t help but smile at his behaviour. He’s so cute like that. I wish I could just go over and kiss that frown right off his lips. Your face heated up slightly at your own thoughts. You turned and sat down on a comfy chair that doubled as a recliner. You pulled the lever and laid back with your feet up. “Haha, who has the comfy seat now?” You taunted him from your spot.

“Still I.”

“Oh, you suck,” you replied.

The day continued pretty smoothly and calmly. You were grateful for that. You didn’t think you could handle another exciting day in a row. You mostly caught up on some TV shows you missed, checked Facebook, played some video games and listened to music. Loki stuck around for some of that, but other times he would be in his room reading or practicing spells. You didn’t want to interrupt him again due to what happened last time. You were incredibly lucky to have fallen into Tony’s lab, but your luck might run out next time a spell misfires and you get caught in it.

During dinner you asked your parents about your mom’s car. It was totaled after the accident and you felt guilty. Loki called you a moron for feeling guilty at something that wasn’t your fault. Your parents assured you that the insurance company was going to pay for all the damages done. You were relieved to hear that. That was two things of theirs that you helped destroy. First the lab, and now the car. Both were very costly to repair. You were pleased to know that your parents would not go broke trying to pay for all of it.

You yawned as you changed into your pajamas. It was summer so you just stuck with a tank top and boxers. You liked boxers. They were breezy which helped you cool down in the warm temperatures of summer. You slipped into bed and sent a goodnight text to Tony. He was very concerned by your lack of texting. You told him about your accident and immediately you received a phone call from him. You remembered picking it up and hearing him question you about everything. What happened, how it happened, who he had to sue, etc. You laughed at his concern and explained everything to him. You remember almost dropping the phone when he asked about Loki. You quickly changed the subject and he snickered at your embarrassment. That was a nice phone call. You turned off the lamp on your nightstand and snuggled into your pillow.

You were almost asleep when you heard a light knocking on your door. You opened your eyes in confusion. You leaned over and turned on your lamp to let light in the room. Was I just hearing things? You waited but the knocking didn’t happen again. Instead, Loki let himself in your room and quietly shut the door behind. He was carrying a pillow and wearing a black t-shirt with pajama pants you bought for him. You smiled in amusement at the little sheep decorating the pants.

“Need something?” You asked curiously, sitting up in bed. You watched him walk over and place his pillow down next to yours. You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion at him actions and looked at him.

He motioned for you to move over and you gave him plenty of room as he climbed into your bed. “Do you remember the conditions?” He asked quietly, adjusting the pillow to his liking. When you didn’t respond, having no clue to what he was talking about, he gave you tired stare. “For the warding spell. Close proximity is needed for it to affect you.”

“Oh…..Ohhhhh. Wait-what?” You scooted over even more as Loki lied down next to you. You made sure to put a large gap between you two without falling off the bed. He actually wants to protect me from the nightmares? You never thought he would be willing to go this far as to help you out. You blushed red at the thought of him caring this much. The fact that Loki was in your bed didn’t help the heat colouring your face either.

“You do not need to do anything for it to work. Just no snoring,” he teased and took notice of your flustered face. He smirked and laid down, facing away from you. You were still sitting in bed, heart pounding. I can’t sleep with him here!

“Go to sleep, [Name],” he commanded gently. You sighed in worry and laid down next to him after turning the lamp off. You put your arm next to you to see how much space was between you two. Ah, I’m going to end up doing something horrible. You tried to create a small blanket wall between the two of you but that only resulted you in losing the blanket for yourself.

“Quit fidgeting,” Loki muttered, annoyed.

You fixed the sheets so they were properly covering you again. You mumbled a sorry, staring at his back. You were really moved by his kindness and want to help you. You loved this man. You bit your lip in thought. You wondered if you could get away with a little affection and play it off as sleep. You waited a few minutes in silence, pretending that you fell asleep. You leaned forward and nuzzled your face into his back gently. You felt him tense but he didn’t stop you or move away. You let out a pleased noise from your throat and smiled. Victory! Hey, his back is cold. You felt the refreshing coolness through the cloth of his shirt. It felt nice in contrast to the warm summer temperatures. Your condition also prevented you from getting cold easily so you were very content at the feeling. Is he cold? Why didn’t he say something? You wanted to try and give him more blankets but you didn’t want to break your façade. You brought up your hand to rest by your face, which was also against Loki’s back. No, [Name]. No more touching. This is enough. Not a good time to get cuddly.

You closed your eyes and nuzzled against his back once more before settling for sleep. Loki’s spell would protect you from anything Remy tried to do in your dreams. You had no reason to be scared to fall asleep. You would be safe. Loki’s here. I’m safe. You smiled a little before falling asleep for real.

Loki’s POV

Fate was mocking him, or testing him, or perhaps both. He had a major internal argument whether or not he should enter your chambers and sleep next you or not. I could have easily cast the spell through the wall. He frowned at his weakness. He used the excuse to get close to you. He half-expected you to kick him out of your room but he made you so stunned that you didn’t have a chance as he invited himself into your bed. He promised to himself that he would not attempt anything. He had strong enough resolve.

Right now that resolve was wavering as you snuggled against his back. He was trying hard to think of anything besides your presence behind him, but was snapped out of his thoughts as he felt a sudden warmth on his back. She just had to be an affectionate sleeper. He clenched his jaw as he felt you move against him. He really enjoyed the heat radiating off of you. Since he was a frost giant, he was naturally cold. He didn’t feel as it was natural to him. Your body temperature gave him a relaxing feeling, like the natural springs he once visited with Thor. They were very pleasant. Just like the feeling you were giving him now. However, it was not only your heat that affected him. Your scent, your clothing, you. You drove him crazy with desire. He had to mentally fight himself from taking you right on the couch earlier. The way you were moving on his lap…your delicious scent…it was almost too much for the God. If I were a lesser being I would have submitted. But I am a God and my self-restraint is second to none. You raised a hand and placed it against his back along with your face. Or not.

He turned his head slightly to see your sleeping form breathing deeply. I will not do anything disrespectful. He sighed in resignation and rolled over to face you. Your facial expression changed at the lack of coldness and you whined pitifully in your sleep. At that moment Loki would have given you anything to stop that heart-plucking look on your beautiful face. When had I become wrapped around her finger? This is pathetic. He gently slipped one arm under your head, using it as support for your neck, and wrapped his other around your waist. He brought you closer until he could feel the top of your head under his chin. You stopped whining and made another pleased noise that melted his heart. I feel like a dog; being praised for good deeds. Am I your pet, [Name]? Are you my master?

He bent his head slightly to kiss your hair and inhaled your intoxicating scent. “Goodnight, my little mortal,” he whispered quietly and buried his face in your hair.
