“Are you quite certain you will be alright?” Loki asked you warily.

“Yeah, I’ll be fine. I doubt Remy will try anything tonight,” you waved at the dismissive thought.

You two were standing in front of the door that led into your bedroom. After your parents scared the living daylight out of you, you continued to watch the movie with Loki. Except this time you were not cuddling like you were beforehand. Loki was confused and mildly annoyed at your reluctance but you told him you did not think it was a good idea with your parents present. You did not know how to break the news to them about your newly acquired lover. Who was a God. You never really had any previous romantic relationships, so this was all new to you. You were disinterested in all the males you ever came into contact with. Whether it was because you thought you had too high standards or because you were waiting just for the right person.

It would come to a shock to your parents if they found out you had fallen for the man they let stay in their home. Your dad used to joke that you would become an old maid and end up living with them forever, just you and your video games. You didn’t mind the jokes, thinking it could be a very plausible future. The fact that you actually found someone would be enough to jolt them into surprise. The whole God thing would just be an extra kick to the stewing pot of bafflement. You were also worried about how closely your dad would be watching you and Loki if he knew of your relationship. He was lenient at the moment and you were grateful for that. However, if he came to know of you two he would lay down some rules.

“How can you be so sure?” Loki pressed. You knew he wanted to sleep in your bed with you. You did too. However, you weren’t entirely positive that you could keep your hands off the sexy man. This would lead to other things. Things you were not ready for. Not yet.

“Oh, quit worrying. You’ll get wrinkles,” you teased and pointed to the slight crinkle between his furrowed brows. He sighed in resignation and kissed you on the top of your head. You smiled at the affectionate gesture and looked up at him.

“Do not come crying to me if you are wrong,” he muttered before turning away. “Goodnight, [Name].”

“Goodnight, Loki,” you responded as he turned and disappeared into his room next to yours.

You entered your bedroom and changed into your pajamas for the night. You decided to browse the internet and Facebook before heading to bed. Nothing of interest was going on while you scrolled through the pages. Your mind wandered as you browsed. You were thinking of pet names to call Loki. You couldn’t just call him Loki forever. You wanted to give him a name that only you could call him. Pfft. Loki Doki. I hardly think he’ll be okay with that one. You noticed that when he called you ‘mortal’ it was not harsh or disdainful anymore. He also just said your name. Maybe he is thinking of names too?

You decided to Google “pet names for lovers” and clicked on the first link that appeared. Your eyes scanned through the list of names, frowning slightly. None of them fit. You were about to give up when you spotted the word ‘Darling.’ That seemed appropriate. You kept looking to find names of similar nature. The old fashion ones seemed best. Such as ‘Sweetheart, Hon, Love,’. You liked those. You stopped scrolling when you came across the word ‘King’. It gave you pause. Well, it does suit him. After hearing Loki’s heart breaking story, you thought he might like being called King. At least by you anyway. Although, you were concerned that he would think you were mocking him and get angry.

“King,” you spoke the word out loud, testing it. “My liege, my lord, your highness, your majesty.” You laughed at your silliness and shut off your computer. You would think more about it tomorrow. Right now you were tired. You did a lot more running than you were used to and the rain was making you sleepy. You flopped onto your bed and snuggled under the blankets, a soft smile on your face. It was a good day, despite your emotional moments. You reached over and turned your light off before closing your eyes and falling to sleep.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You grinned happily at Loki. You two were having a picnic on top of a grassy hill, there was a gentle breeze and the sky was sunny and blue. Absolutely perfect. He prodded the flower crown on his head and gave you a smirk.

“Must I wear this thing?” He complained half-heartily.

“Yes, you have to. You’re the King after all.” He seemed pleased with that answer and handed you the picnic basket. You took it and peered inside, reaching for a sandwich.

However, when you looked back up you noticed the scenery had drastically changed. You glanced around as the sky turned blood red with threatening clouds flowing in. The gentle breeze turned into a strong wind that whipped at your face. You put a hand up to shield yourself from the harsh air. The grass around you died away and crinkled black in death.

“What in Mordor is going on?” You questioned. You turned to look at Loki and screeched at his appearance. His flower crown was now a ring of spikes that drove into his skull, making blood leak out. His beautiful pale face was rotting away to leave gaps in his cheeks and jaw. His eyes were clouded over with a milky haze and you noticed his teeth were dangerously sharp as he bared them menacingly at you.

“Something the matter, [Name]?” He garbled out in a growl.

You shot to your feet and tried to run away from the Loki-monster. You heart beat loudly in your chest and you couldn’t stop the overwhelming sense of fear travelling through your body. You took a step to run but the dead grass clung to your ankle, making you fall onto the ground. You gasped as the air was knocked out of you. You could hear Loki shuffling closer to your position. You started to hyperventilate as you turned and saw him crawl his deformed body towards you.

“Loki! It’s me, [Name]. Stop it,” you tried to plead with the God that you loved so much. You knew it wasn’t him anymore, though. You could hear him laugh darkly and your stomach dropped as he pulled himself on top of you, hovering over your immobile form. “Please…” you begged softly, a few tears escaping your fearful eyes.

He merely let out another twisted growl before moving his head down quickly to tear out your throat.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“AHHH!” You screamed as you quickly sat up in bed. You were scared out of your wits and you wrapped your hands around your neck, checking for any damage. Your heart was clenched in icy fear and yet pounded against your ribcage, almost as if it was going to burst from your chest cavity. You could even hear it in your ears. W-what? He tried to kill me! It was dark in your room. You couldn’t see your surroundings. You jumped as your door banged open, letting in some light as a figure made its way towards you. “Please don’t!” You cried, still confused and panicky. You held out your hands and edged back away. You gasped as you started to fall off the bed but you were caught by two strong, familiarly cold arms.

“What in the nine realms have gotten into you?” Loki chastised you as he pulled you closer to the middle of the bed and encased you in his arms against his chest. You sniffled and gripped his shirt tightly, rubbing your face against him. “You had a nightmare, did you not? I knew you would. You just had to be so stubborn. I could have prevented all of this if you only let me. Foolish, mortal.” Even though he scolded you, he rubbed a hand soothingly across your back in comfort. “You are shaking. This is what happens when you do not listen to me.”

“I get it,” you mumbled out against his chest. Your heart calmed a little as your body recognized the safeness of Loki’s embrace. You wiped your eyes and sniffled slightly, trying to compose yourself. “You told me so. I get it.”

Loki rested his chin on your head as he tucked you closer into his chest. “And?”

“You were right…” You trailed off as you took a deep breath to steady your breathing. You were calming down slowly but surely. Loki didn’t respond, as if waiting for something. You were confused for a moment before realizing what he wanted. You sighed in defeat. “And I was wrong. There, happy?”

“Not quite,” Loki responded. He pushed you gently away a little to look at your face. He frowned and wiped the rest of your tears away with his thumb. “Do not cry over dreams. Was it truly terrifying? Do you wish to convey the contents of the nightmare?”

You nodded meekly and looked down from his anxious stare. “You turned into a monster and tried to eat me.”

Loki’s eyes narrowed, not sure if he heard you right. “Come again? I did what?”

“I said you tried to eat me. You actually bit my neck,” you explained. You looked up to gauge his reaction. He merely just shook his head in disbelief. “What?” You asked.

He smirked and leaned closer to touch noses with you. “That just sounds like another sort of dream.”

You couldn’t stop the smile breaking out on your face at his comment and rubbed your nose against his. “Believe me; you were pretty ugly looking in this dream.”

He pulled back and placed a hand on his chest in mock hurt. “Ugly? Me? I did not think such a thing was possible. You, on the other hand.”

“Hey!” You laughed and playfully smacked his arm. “I’m gorgeous. You’re just jealous.”

He chuckled and pulled you into his arms again. You let out an ‘oof’ as he brought you down to lay beside him in the bed. Without saying a word he closed your bedroom door with a wave of his hand and pulled the covers up to drape over the two of you. You snuggled into his cold arms and smiled at him in the darkness.

“Alright, go back to sleep now. As long as I’m here, the nightmares will cease.” He positioned himself to comfortably hold you while lying down. You ended up in the same position as before. Head under his as his arm draped across your hip. “My patience is wearing thin of this Remy character. I will have to deal with him shortly.”

“Oh, me too. I’m the one he’s been tormenting.”

“You will not go near such a man, [Name],” Loki commanded sternly, but not cruelly. His grip tightened on you slightly as he spoke. “He is a vile cretin who you should not waste time on. Ridding his existence will be like swatting an insect. You will not dally on this.”

“But-“ You started.

“No buts. Now sleep,” Loki spoke with a tone of finality.

“…You just said butts.”

You could just feel his eyes roll at your childish comment. It didn’t stop you from laughing to yourself though. Much to your displeasure he didn’t humour you with a response. He must have figured I’d stop talking if he did. Smarty pants. But why won’t he let me go after Remy? The guy stole from my family. He’s the reason I have this ability now. He’s the one that caused that terrible nightmare. You closed your eyes and tried to relax in Loki’s embrace. You didn’t feel like sleeping after being frightened so badly but you felt safe in Loki’s presence. He also promised you would have no more nightmares and you trusted him with your life. You let out a sigh and buried your face in the crook of Loki’s neck before relaxing completely.

I’ll call Coulson tomorrow and ask him if I could help. Poor man. We hung up on him like three times today. Loki won’t like it but I need to contribute somehow. How can I just ignore Remy?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It took you a while but you eventually fell back asleep in Loki’s arms. You did not want to get up when morning hit, but the light casting through your window had other ideas in mind. The rain had cleared and you and Loki were once again bombarded with the thunderous sound of construction vehicles driving past your house. You kept your eyes closed and tried to ignore the sounds but Loki was seriously agitated at being disturbed from his slumber. You felt him shift from his position, gently as to not wake you. You felt his arm leave your hip. You peeked your eyes open to watch him cast it towards your window. Your curtains shut and the sounds were muffled as a green barrier was thrown up against your wall, blocking out the noises from outside. You blinked at the glowing wall and looked back at Loki to see him let out a pleased grunt before hugging you closer.

You didn’t want to say anything but your curiosity got the better of you. “Why didn’t you do that the first time?”

He sleepily patted your head before resting his chin on it. “I was not annoyed enough to do so. Your antics last night tired me. If you keep me awake any longer, you will regret it.” His threat was softened by his sleepy demeanor as he yawned and closed his eyes. You thought that was adorable. As much as you wanted to push his buttons you felt bad for having him come to your rescue last night and decided to fall back asleep.

It was a few hours later when you two actually decided to get up for the day. Loki was content just lying there in bed with you, but you had plans today. You had to call Agent Coulson and apologize for the constant hang-ups you and Loki caused. You crawled out of bed, much to Loki’s displeasure, and turned around to look at him. He moved to sprawl out, taking up the whole bed with his long limbs. He turned his head lazily to look at you.

“Must you insist on getting up?”

You smiled at him. “Yes. There’s this thing called breakfast. I think we both missed it. I’m going to make some.” You began to walk out of the room before stopping yourself. What’s a better time to try out those pet names than now? You cocked your head back to him as he gazed at you curiously. “Can I get my liege anything to eat? Perhaps a muffin for my King?”

He jerked up into a sitting position and gawked at you, eyebrows furrowing in confusion. “What did you just call me?”

Your smile dropped at his reaction, worried that you might have offended him. “I called you my King. Should I not have? Look, I’m sorry if that was not appropriate. I’m just trying something out.”

“Come here.” He extended his hand out to you and regarded you with a cool stare. You could not decipher his emotions. You hesitantly took his hand and squeaked slightly as he pulled you towards him on the bed. You ended up in a hug, awkwardly half standing and half crouching. He kissed you tenderly before releasing you back to stand and blink at him. He smirked. “My Queen can call me whatever she wishes.” You grinned like an idiot and blushed lightly at his words. He waved his hand and returned back to his lounging position. “Now, go fetch me that muffin.”

You laughed and gave a joking curtsy. “As you wish, my lord.”

You ventured out of your room clad in your pajamas. You passed through the living room to walk into the kitchen and were surprised to find your mother preparing some food. She noticed you walk in and gave you a warm smile.

“Well, look who’s finally awake. Would you like something to eat, sweetie?”

You nodded and gave her a kiss on the cheek in greeting. “Yes, please.” You leaned against the counter and watched her make you breakfast. “Hey, where’s dad?”

“Oh, he’s out with the construction workers right now. They’re going over the blue prints for the new lab,” she replied in that gentle, motherly voice.

You were going to ask her about the details of the new lab but were interrupted by a sharp, persistent knocking from the front door. You narrowed your eyes and glanced in that direction. Your dad would have just walked in. Josie or Stan weren’t planning on visiting today so you wondered who it could be. Your mother put down her work and wiped her hands on her apron. You raised your hands to stop her and offered to get the door.

You moved to the entrance of the house and opened said door. Your eyes widened a little at the sight of Agent Coulson, flanked by two suit-clad agents. “Agent Coulson, I was just about to call you,” you laughed a little awkwardly at his serious expression. “What do I owe the pleasure?”

He reached up to take off his sunglasses and his eyes showed that he was not here for pleasantries. “Miss [Last Name]-“

“[Name],” you corrected him.

He cleared his throat and nodded to the two agents that accompanied him. They brushed past you, nudging you to the side in a not-so-gentle manner. You let out an indignant “Hey!” at their invasiveness but Coulson’s voice brought your attention back to him.

“Miss [Name], we have orders to survey your house for a criminal that you may be unknowingly harboring. It is within all legal rights that we search your home for the presence of Loki. If you do not wish to be charged as an accomplice, you will allow us to conduct our search.”
